Keeping your computer cool this summer
Is you computer holed up in a corner of your room? Do you leave it on for extended periods without using it in the heat?
This time of year a common call out we get is to repair computers that have overheated, this can lead to blown power supplies or blown motherboards – but the most common thing heat leads to over time is faulty harddrives, usually leaving the data beyond repair or recovery.
So whats the best solution?
Well airflow is very important, ensure you have positioned your computer where air can circulate effectively around the base unit. There are fans in the case, and these may well get faster to draw more air through when hotter – so dont be suprised or worried if your computer is louder then normal in hot weather.
Its recommended to keep at leasta 5cm gap in all directions for your base unit, for laptops too make sure you keep them on a solid surface such as a table and out of direct sunlight. Keeping them on a solid surface ensures there can be airflow to the fans on the bottom, usually these are blocked if resting on your lap or keeping the laptop in a laptop bag.
If your computer is full of dust and cobwebs, why not give us a call, so we can give it a spring clean and checkup? It only costs £20 but could save you a lot more in terms of replacement parts and data.
